Stupid Vista

November 13th, 2007 at 06:58 pm

For all the innovations, Vista is seriously lacking when it comes to the basic. I accidentally opened a zip file with 7-zip and caused the file association. Worst, there wasn't any way for me to restore the default zip association. After much research, I finally had to go and delete a regkey to restore it to default, complete with appropriate icon. I ran into a lot of complications trying to clear out my cookie folder too. With all the spying problems on the web via cookie, hiding the cookie folder is the stupidest move.

Financially speaking, let just say this is the worst month ever with one costly mistake after another. Mind you they're not junk, but to spend when I didn't need the product yet and simply because the sale person talked me into it is so foolish. I need to go out and interact with people more given how gullible I am when it comes to dealing with them, sale people in particular.

Vista has been a disappointment, even amongst my fellow Windows Advocates.

In time, it will mature as a product, but right now, there hasn't been a lot of personal incentives to upgrade.

My DS gets so frustrated with Vista. To top it off, his restore files were not on a disc, but in a hidden file on his computer. He thought that was crazy since he wouldn't be able to use it if the computer was screwed up.

I'm finally changing to Mac OS. From the stories I have heard it wasn't worth it for me to go Vista. 3 of my 4 computers still run XP, but I just bought a Macbook for my wife...

Since my computer is new, I figured I might at well get Vista and save myself an upgrade sometime in the future, but the annoyances are starting to get to me.

Thank god my restore files are on a disk, it would've drove me bonkers otherwise. Restore disk is one of the absolute must have when I buy a computer. We recently got a free computer without a restore disk, and I fretted so much that I decided to restrict everything on it. Haha, it's worst than Vista constantly asking for permission to open programs, but it gives me peace of mind.

Regarding Mac, a lot of people think it has better security, but it's really no better than PC. It managed to escape the attention of hackers because of small market share. But I read news that given the recent surge in popularity, viruses targeting Mac are starting to make an appearance.

Here is something ridiculous... Why in Vista, did they drop the great folder design that came in with XP? Where the options to Copy, Move, Delete, or Rename, along with more choices, ran up the left side of the open folder. I could highlight a file or folder and copy or move it so easily. Am I missing something? Or did the Vista designers just ax a good feature?

  6. kimiko Says:

I moved straight from Win 98 to Vista with minimal exposure to Win 2000, NT and XP so I don't recall such feature. But in all of the windows, all I had to do was right click to access those options.
