Got the job

August 27th, 2008 at 03:49 pm

Woohoo!

Thanks everyone for you advices and encouragement. The paperwork process will take about 1 month though. But what the heck Smile

Is this a good sign?

I got an email from the person coordinating the interview last week asking for references from 2 formers employers or immediate supervisors. I've only work at this one job, ok I had a couple summer jobs working in movie theater and even a few months as an office assistant, but that was 6, 7 years ago. I don't even remember where the locations were much less contact info. Consider that she mentioned she'll call on Friday, this is somewhat last minute. I'm hoping that this means I didn't leave a really bad impression. After all, they won't bother checking references if they didn't ok the interview right?

Over and done with

I went to the interview yesterday and I don't even remember how it went since I freaked out so much. This happened every time. First I forgot my English and had to pause mid sentence to try and find the appropriate words, then I forgot to pronounce correctly. Ugh! I do remember that I told them I won't work rotating schedule, which they said is a possibility, and that they'll contact me next Friday. I think that means Friday of next week and not tomorrow.

I'll just focus on my classes for now and work with that later since school will start on Monday. I still haven't sign up for any classes since I planned to add classes around the work schedule.

Update: Astrology reading

"Your career and profession seem to be in a very favorable light at this time, therefore any chance to impress those you work for or any of your clients should be taken advantage of today. Your finance sector seems to be very auspicious, so be on the look out for any possible financial or investment opportunities."

This somehow makes me feel better.

Close call

So I responded to the email last week and waited, and waited and got no respond. Today, I log on to my email to check if they sent me anything and emptied a few folders out at well, and I noticed that the responses were filtered into one of the folder that I emptied. Ack!

I fired off an email asking them to send the info again then tried to find a way to read the mail I deleted. I finally click on the Trash folder and they were all in there. Thank goodness. Turned out the first email, send hours after my reply, was nothing but notification that my application was sent to the supervisor. But the second, more inconspicuous one is the one with information about the interview. Good thing I double and triple checked the trash folder and that the second email was sent only yesterday morning.

Wish me luck. My interview is scheduled for next week.

I should do this more often

Applying for jobs and forgetting about it that is. It's always pleasant to receive a notice informing me that I have been considered and to respond if I'm still interested.

Arnold really rained on my parade when he announced the hiring freeze. It'll be good if they can work out the budget and start hiring again, but for now, I'm just going to forget about that prospect.

Let hope this one works out. I'm actually looking forward to this. I half-heartedly looked for a 2nd job for a long time now. I know I need a second job, but I really want to maintain that 50/50 work and fun ratio. Sure, I don't have a lot of money but I certainly have a lot of time to do whatever I want. It's the luxury I give myself. Can't afford to do that any more though. I haven't even managed to put away 1k this year. So sad.

I've been constantly bothered with phone calls from some company called MCM lately. First it was the automated machine, then it was some guy in India, then now it's an American. All very demanding, all got my address but spelled my name wrong and all refused to answer anything or even to identify themselves except demanded to speak with me. Oh yeah, it's not a courtesy call, but a business call. What type of business call? It's personal and can't be disclosed. Ha! like I'm going to answer that. All the legitimate businesses I've dealt with at least spelled my name correct and they always identified themselves when calling. I've never heard of that company before and there's no way I'm going to believe that it's actually personal business when the call started with an automated machine and move up to an Indian guy. No offense to Indian, but I don't subscribe to the idea that sensitive information should be handled half way around the world. Businesses that tried to increase profit by putting my personal information at greater risk is committing a serious crime.

Other goods news. My grades for summer classes were much better than I anticipated. What a relief. The class that I though I would get an A-, since I skipped all the quizzes that made up 10% and aced the rest, ended up giving me an A.

But the surprise was from the other class. I went into the final with a B and I thought I did a terrible job with the final. The instructor in that class gave me a lot of griefs during the entire summer too. He deducted lots of points on my homeworks for grammar, complained about my inarticulateness, insulted my ability to form moral arguments, etc.... He did have a reputation for discriminating against female, so I suppose it wasn't like he was targeting just me. But that class seriously made me dislike philosophy. So I was expecting a B- and ended up with B+ Smile

Also sold the expensive book I bought for the first class for $10 less than I bought it. Although if I factor in taxes and commission, I actually got back $30 less than what I paid.
